Wrayland Path and the railway line

Work on the South Devon Railway between Newton Abbot and Moretonhampstead began in 1863. It took 3 years to build, with the branch being formally opened on Tuesday 26th June 1866. This day was marked by a public holiday and many people turned out to witness the first train. Between Newton Abbot and Moretonhampstead there were three intermediate stations at Bovey Tracey, Lustleigh and Teigngrace. Lustleigh railway station is just visible to the far right of this photograph.
