Saddle Bridge

Burnard comments on the photograph that "this modern bridge replaced an ancient one which was so steep on each side it was dubbed Saddle Bridge". The bridge carries the minor road from Holne to Hexworthy over the O'Brook (called the Okebrook or Wobrook by Burnard). Crossing reports that the previous bridge had been replaced in about 1872 because it had become unsafe.
