Dorothy Burnard was the daughter of the chemical manufacturer, wharfinger, and Devonshire antiquarian Robert Burnard, with whom this collection belongs. She later married Revd K.A. Lake, rector of Stoke-in-Teignhead, who was at one time the curate to well known South West researcher and folklorist, Revd Sabine Baring-Gould.
