Erme Pits
Erme Pits open-cast tin-workings near the head of the River Erme. Crossing says that Erme Pits were the largest and deepest of the opencast mine workings in this locality. He suggests that these workings may represent the Armed Pit mentioned in 1672 as yielding a particular kind of ore called zill tin. Zill tin was a type of tin ore that was considered to be of exceptionally good quality.
