Two boys near Merrivale Bridge
Merivale was originally the site of a ford across the river Walkham. During the medieval period the river was spanned by a clapper bridge as a crossing point for the Tavistock-Ashburton and trans-Dartmoor packhorse trails. The clapper bridge was later replaced by a road bridge. The current bridge was built in 1958.
