Lower Merripit

Lower Merripit is a old longhouse and Burnard comments that it is "said to be one of the oldest houses on Dartmoor". It has a large Dartmoor porch. The name may be derived from the tenant in 1344 who was William de Meriput or a corruption of the Elizabethan name for the farm 'Merepitt' - the miry pit.
