Crockern Tor
Burnard described this rock formation as the "Cyclopean Chair" on Crockern Tor. Worth in his book //Dartmoor// describes the rocks as "Parliament Rock". The rocks have also been described as the "Judge's Chair". The Devon tin miners were not subject to English Common Law but their activities were governed by Stannary Law, a privilege granted to them by the Crown. The special laws of the Stannary Law were enacted at Parliaments or Great Courts held at Crockern Tor. A 1630 report stated that on Crockern Tor there were 'a table and seats of moorstone, hewn out of the rocks' and these were supposed to be used by the Stannary Parliaments.
