Teigncombe Manor House

Teigncombe Manor House

The photograph was taken on 16 August 1889. Burnard's annotation was "Teigncombe. Remains of Manor House. Said to be former residence of Judge Whyddon". In //Pictorial Records// Burnard wrote "This picturesque old ruin is in the hamlet of Teighcombe, and was doubtless at some time a superior residence. This house appertained to the ancient manor of Teigncombe, which is mentioned in Domesday". The Whyddon family became the owners of the manor of Teigncombe during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Sir John Whyddon became a judge in 1552. He made a fortune from the tin industry and owned several of manors.
