Blackabrook kist

Blackabrook kist

A kist or kistvaen is a small rectangular burial chamber constructed in stone with sides and ends of stone slabs set on edge and with a cover of one or more stone slabs. The kist was normally centrally placed in a cairn that covered it and in most cases was ringed by a circle of stones. Kists are prehistoric constructions probably built during the Bronze Age (1500 - 800 BC). This is one of a group of three kists by the Blackabrook River on the south-east slopes of Round Hill.
