Lych (coffin) stone at Dartmeet Hill

Lych (coffin) stone at Dartmeet Hill

From the mid 13th to the early 20th centuries, the bodies of all deceased persons in the Hexworthy and Dartmeet areas were carried for burial to the churchyard at Widecombe in the Moor . The Lych stone was a convenient place to set the coffin while the pall-bearers rested.
