Bellever Clapper Bridge

Bellever Clapper Bridge

Burnard calls the bridge 'Bellaford Cyclopean Bridge' but it is now called Bellever Clapper Bridge. Clapper Bridges are unique to Dartmoor. There are 30 in total, and they were built by tin workers and farmers to cross the many rivers and streams on the moor. In the photograph Bellever Clapper Bridge is incomplete and it still is today as a new road bridge has been built alongside.
