Television recreation of the traditional Dartmoor funeral
When Carlton TV wished to recreate a traditional Dartmoor funeral for their TV programme, "Murder Most Foul", they commissioned Bridestowe funeral director, George Heathman, to make them an elm coffin with 1920s style fittings and a traditional wooden bier. George Heathman was the only undertaker they could find who still made his own coffins. This photograph shows George Heathman in top hat and morning coat with the coffin and bier he made for the programme, and to his left are his regular pall bearers - James Redstone, Brian Wonnacott, Richard Petherick and David Holinshead.
