Abbots tower - Buckfast Abbey

A photograph of the restoration work on Abbots Tower at Buckfast Abbey in 1883. There are some remains of older work today including the Abbot's Tower which was originally built in the 15th century. The Abbot's Tower is at the south-western corner of the conventual buildings. This was a series of three small but very well-appointed rooms adjoining the western range. Each room had the luxury of its own fireplace and garderobe en suite, suggesting that the "Abbot's Tower" was probably for the Abbot's most important guests.
