Deep Ford
The stone and later tarmac Military Loop Road crosses a tributary of the East Okement River at Deep Ford. The steep entry and exit and the scouring effect of the stream in full flood is guarded by granite setts. These provide a more robust road than tarmac, especially in days when gun carriages would have had steel shod wheels drawn by horses with iron shoes.
