1WW THE ARRIVAL OF A THOUSAND MEMBERS OF THE RAMC AT NEWTON ABBOT IN 1915

Sadly we know nothing much about this photograph other than the description in the title; why were these members of the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) being sent to Newton Abbot, why do they appear to have 2 different uniforms, why did they need blankets, where was this photograph taken? Can you help fill in the gaps in our knowledge?
