1WW OKEHAMPTON MILITARY STATION IN 1916

Okehampton station in 1916. Many troops underwent a brief training period on Dartmoor before shipment to the Front although details of the extent are still to be found. Note the ubiquitous tea, the bombardier (the Royal Artillery name for a 2 stripe corporal) and the gunner by the water boiler with 4 good conduct stripes. There is some suspicion that the photograph is at Okehampton station and not at the military sidings further along the line towards Meldon.
