1WW WOMEN SEWING SPHAGNUM MOSS INTO BAGS, IMPERIAL HOTEL, PRINCETOWN 1917

Sphagnum Moss gathered from Dartmoor was used a wound dressing during the First World War as it was so absorbent and helped to stop bleeding. The Prince of Wales took a great interest in the collection, cleansing and packaging of the Sphagnum. it is said that he awarded a badge to those involved but no example has come to light. Please let the Dartmoor trust know if you have information on such a badge or brooch.
