1WW WOMEN MUNITION WORKERS FROM HEATHCOAT FACTORY IN TIVERTON
Heathcoat textile mill, one of Tiverton's major employers, formed a Munitions department early in the First World War to produce shell cases. There was great pressure from the Government for men to volunteer for the Armed Forces and from 1917 many men were conscripted. Their jobs were taken over by women, a group of whom are seen here in several styles of workwear.
