1WW PEACE DAY CELEBRATIONS IN CREDITON
The Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) was a voluntary unit of civilians providing nursing care for military personnel in the United Kingdom and various other countries in the British Empire formed by the Red Cross and Order of St John. Although VADs were intimately bound up in the war effort, they were not strictly speaking military nurses, as they were not under the control of the military, Here they parade through Crediton as part of the Peace Day celebrations. Many wear medals or badges on their right chest, where the medals of immediate family members are worn. However, they coould be medical badges.
