Holne Bridge?

This is thought to be a picture of Holne bridge over the River Dart, please contact us if you consider it to be another location. The Dart is crossed near Holne by two good medieval bridges. The present Holne Bridge was built after the destruction of an earlier bridge by a flood in 1413. New Bridge, higher up the river, is of the same date. Holne Bridge and New Bridge have pedestrian recesses built into the sides above the four massive arches, these originally for people to stand in out of the way of packhorses when they were crossing the bridge, they are equally useful today to avoid cars. This section of the River Dart finishing at Holne Bridge is popular with canoeists. 200 yds below the bridge is Holne weir.
