Water Wheel at Whiteworks

This photograph, dated the 1st August 1889, provides some indication of Dartmoor's industrial past. It shows a large and impressive waterwheel at Whiteworks, along with the stamp used to crush the tin ore. The man standing against the enclosure wall appears insignificant to the mighty wheel. Perhaps this offers some indication of how important the tin mining industry was to Dartmoor and its communities.
