Moor Memories
The Moor Memories project was a landmark oral history initiative launched by the Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) in 2001. Its primary goal was to capture and preserve the "intangible heritage" of Dartmoor—the personal stories, traditions, and everyday experiences of people who lived and worked on the moor during the mid-20th century.
Because much of this way of life (such as subsistence farming without electricity or the height of the quarrying industry) was rapidly disappearing, the project sought to create a permanent archive before these firsthand accounts were lost.
The Dartmoor Trust has been digitising the entire collection from the published CDs through to the original recordings. We will be adding new recordings over the year with full transcripts.
