Understanding historical sources and evaluation are key skills needed to be successful at GCSE History. We have used the material from the Trust to engage GCSE students with relevant and local sources based around World War One to help develop their sources skills.
How was Britain affected by the War? What changes did it make to the socio-economic structure?
Why are sources so important to Historians? Why are some sources more or less useful than others?
Using a selected source, consider the following questions; what can you see? What does it suggest?
Who produced it? When was it produced? Why was it produced? What does it not tell us? Students are also encouraged to use these sources for revision. They should select a source and see how much of the wider context of that source they can explain.
